VAINELLA'S RESEARCH LABORATORY/WORKSHOP

[corner view]
A special "Research section" aimed to investigate mural painting with a scientific and experimental approach has been active for years at the "Laboratorio per Affresco di Vanella" .Here we study the ancient materials and the original artistic techniques, with a focus on natural pigments, organic binders, supports, plaster, tempera paintings and the lesser-known pictorical variations on wall. The research activity is carried out by making, at the workshop, particular "pictorial models", aimed to illustrate singular "pictorial models showing the various techniques using appropriate mixtures and combinations of colors.
Over time, an extraordinary pictorial archive has arisen as an expression of the different genres of art and exemplary reference point for the knowledge of ancient mural paintings: besides teaching restoration and history of art, the Vainella's Research laboratory/workshop offers a significant contribution to knowledge, to encourage the preservation of the artistic and cultural heritage.
